Jeff is a Chartered Professional Fire Engineer and has carried out fire engineering and fire services designs for a wide variety of specialist facilities, using both the Acceptable Solutions (C/AS2) and Verification Method (C/VM2). This includes mechanical and natural smoke extraction and pressurization systems. He is listed as an Auckland Council producer statement author and is an experienced user of fire and smoke modelling computer packages such as B-RISK, FDS and Firewind as well as using spreadsheet/hand calculations to verify designs. Jeff joined Jensen Hughes, formerly Crossfire, having previously performed a variety of roles for FENZ, formerly NZ Fire Service, Fire Engineering Unit including design review advice to Building Consent Authorities since 2009. He comes with a regulatory background and in-depth knowledge of the NZ Building Code. He has peer reviewed a wide variety of designs using the Acceptable Solutions (C/AS2) and the Verification Method (C/VM2). He has also assessed fully performance based, specifically fire engineered Alternative Solutions. Originally qualified in the UK as a Building Surveyor in 1994, he elected to pursue public safety roles in the UK and then the NZ Fire Service. Jeff comes with a practical background, having worked in the construction industry from a young age. He is a CPEng practice area assessor for Fire Engineering and an assessed Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers. He has 12 years’ experience as an operational UK firefighter and officer and has training qualifications as a Compartment Fire Behaviour Instructor.
