Throughout his 36-year career, John Orloff has excelled as an expert in security risk management, emergency preparedness and investigations. Today, John leads Jensen Hughes' Security Risk Management Practice and, as a senior advisor to corporations, major public organizations and affluent families, taps a wealth of domestic and international experience in security best practices, threat assessments, emergency preparedness and crisis management.
Through careful evaluation of risk drivers, John and the Security Risk Management team are able to thoughtfully develop strategies, organizational structures, policies, technology integration and training requirements that help enhance an organizations security and safety program or build one from the ground up.
John’s record is one of consistent accomplishment in leadership and management while safeguarding national security interests. Prior to joining Jensen Hughes, he served as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Law Enforcement. After the events of 9/11, he managed and was responsible for developing strategies to safeguard public transportation at airports throughout the Midwestern United States.
From 1983 to 2003, John served in a variety of leadership and management roles at the U.S. Secret Service. As an Inspector for the Secret Service in Washington, D.C., he reported to the Assistant Director for Inspection of the Secret Service, where his duties included recommending security action plans to improve efficiency and effectiveness; evaluating protective operations and behavioral threat assessment investigations; directing highly sensitive and confidential internal investigations; and overseeing the wide-ranging investigative responsibilities of one of the country’s premier financial crime investigative agencies.
As a senior manager in the U.S. Secret Service’s Chicago Field Office, John oversaw and coordinated logistics for a wide array of protective functions ranging from the 1996 Democratic National Convention, 1999 visit of Pope John Paul II to St. Louis and the 2000 protective detail for Senator Joseph Lieberman’s Vice Presidential bid to behavioral threat investigation cases involving threats to the President and Vice Presidents of the United States.
John served on both the Vice Presidential and Presidential Protective Divisions from 1987 to 1992, in positions in which he conducted numerous domestic and international facility and residence surveys and protective advances for the President, Vice President and foreign heads of state. He also handled security arrangements for the G-7 Security Summit in Helsinki, the International Commerce Summit in Tokyo, the Presidential Economic Forum in Rome and the 1992 Republican National Convention in Houston.
