Jensen Hughes is proud to be among the top ten of Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine’s 2017 MEP Giants list, ranking in sixth place. Our firm remained in the sixth-place spot, with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) revenue increasing 14 percent between 2015 and 2016, from $126 million to $144 million. There was also a steady increase in both gross income and MEP only revenue among the top firms.
The article reports steady mergers and acquisitions on the global scale, with a decrease in domestic transactions. There was a slight uptick in the MEP Giants’ 2016 mergers and acquisitions from 2015, increasing from 21 percent to 23 percent. In 2016, Jensen Hughes acquired three companies, Aon Fire Protection Engineering Corporation, Stevenson & Associates, and CASE Forensics. These key acquisitions sought to expand Jensen Hughes’ expertise in specific disciplines including fire protection, risk management, forensic science, and engineering consulting
The future is looking bright for the MEP industry as the greatest challenge facing MEP Giants is no longer about the economy’s impact on construction, but rather staffing issues with getting younger engineers experienced and older engineers current. Mergers and acquisitions activity is expected to continue at a steady, somewhat subdued pace due to the number of transactions over the last several years.
