The U.S. Coast Guard (Coast Guard) released a final rule on January 17, 2025, updating its maritime security regulations by establishing minimum cybersecurity requirements for U.S.-flagged vessels, Outer Continental Shelf facilities, and facilities subject to the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 regulations. The rule is slated to take effect in July of 2025. This white paper provides some guidance for navigating the Coast Guard’s rule, such as rule applicability and criteria, and cybersecurity response Plan requirements.
