Donald (Don) Hopkins, PE is the Vice President, and Global Service Line Leader for Fire Suppression at Jensen Hughes. Don has more than 25 years of experience as a fire protection engineer. His expertise includes fire suppression, gaseous suppression, emergency communication systems, performance-based assessments, fire and smoke modeling as well as egress analysis. He also oversees system installations, system failure investigations, provides general life safety evaluations for new and existing buildings and serves as a technical expert for legal cases.
Don works with clients across multiple markets including high-rise buildings, cleanrooms, libraries, museums, laboratories, warehouses, historic buildings, wineries, theaters and other complex building designs. He is well-versed in demonstrating code equivalencies for projects requiring performance-based analyses that entail fuel loading and hazard assessments, timed-egress studies, computational fire modeling and bench- or full-scale fire testing to evaluate specific fire hazards.
Don is a registered Fire Protection Engineer and has participated on multiple NFPA Technical Committees such as Sprinkler System Discharge Criteria, Records Storage, and Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems. Don has also won several industry awards over the span of his career, including the NFPA's Frank J. Fee Jr. Award.
