Technical Fire Assessment Experts

Jensen Hughes offers technical fire assessments that encompass everything from simple evaluations of product, construction, or design modifications to comprehensive engineering analyses of complex building systems. We analyse and interpret fire resistance and reaction to fire test results, allowing us to assess a range of variables in construction designs and products effectively.

The Benefits of a Technical Fire Assessment

Sometimes, for various reasons such as size or configuration, it may not be possible to subject an exact construction or product to a fire test. In these cases, we may be able to provide an assessment of the expected performance of a material, product, form of construction or design – based on available baseline reference test data or through computer and mathematical modelling.

As fire resistance test reports relate only to the exact design configuration that was tested, and because it is impractical to test all potential variations of all applications, professional solutions are often necessary to establish whether variations from tested details are acceptable.

Meeting the National Construction Code (NCC) Requirements

The NCC and various local and international construction codes specify test standards for fire resistance, reaction to fire and bushfire attack levels. Products or systems can only be installed as tested or modified within the limits of the ‘permissible variations’ defined by these standards. Any additional variations needed to meet performance requirements must be assessed by a fire assessment team with an Accredited Testing Laboratory (ATL). Jensen Hughes, as an ATL, can provide assessment reports to comply with A5G5, A5G6, and A5G7, as outlined in section A5G3 (1) (d) of the NCC 2022.

Assessment reports serve as Evidence of Suitability in accordance with the requirements of the NCC to support the use of a materials, products, or construction methods. They also reference test evidence to meet performance requirements or deemed to satisfy (DTS) provisions of the NCC.
